Good afternoon, Mustangs!
It is with great pride that I celebrate with our kindergarten and first grade students the success of their Student Led Conferences!! As I conferenced with one young Mustang, he so confidently shared his pride in the growth of his math skills and physical fitness. This is what Student Led Conferences are about…the student, the student’s confidence, the student’s growth of presentation skills, and the student’s understanding of how he or she is growing as a learner. What a celebration!
In sharing this pride we have received feedback asking about details of specific percentiles and wanting a teacher’s voice. Please note that these conferences are not for this purpose. You need to contact your child’s teacher for details of this nature as that is a Parent/Teacher Conference.
Again, our Student Led Conferences are designed around the student for the student to articulate his or her understanding of growth which will look and sound very different for each child. Please use the “questions” at each conference table to help guide discussion. Also, note this is a time to celebrate what the student sees as growth or pride and not a time to share disappointment. We are growing their presentation skills for various audiences as well as developing recognition and ownership of data.
Again, thank you for setting aside time to join your student for this conference as 100% of our students will present. If you are not able to do so, please know that we are making sure there is an adult available for each child.
Thank you to our kindergartners and first graders for their courage in kicking off our very first school-wide Student Led Conferences!!
Enjoy the weekend and weather along with a good book–read, read, read!
