I am happy to welcome your family to third grade at Midway Elementary! I began my teaching career in Gainesville, Florida in 1996 and moved to Lexington in 2005, when I began teaching at Midway. My family and I enjoy spending our free time together outdoors with our dogs and cheering on the Clemson Tigers AND Carolina Gamecocks (where my sons attend college.) I can’t forget our very favorite past time… rooting for the University of Florida Gators (where my husband and I attended college.) I am looking forward to another great year of learning and growing with my third grade students and their families!

Samantha Hammond

Hello Mustang Families! My name is Samantha Hammond and I am very excited to join the Midway family this year! An interesting fact about me is that I began my teaching career at Midway as a student teacher fourteen years ago! I went on to teach 1st and 2nd grades in Lexington One and then for the South Carolina Virtual Charter School. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and a Master’s in Divergent Learning from Columbia College. My husband Brian and I have two awesome boys, Noah (8) who already attends Midway and Henry (2). We also have two sweet dogs, Taco and Minnie. Teaching is my passion, but I also enjoy reading, playing with my boys, traveling, and all things Disney! I am looking forward to an amazing year with all of you!

Erin Waring

I am starting my 8th year as a Midway Mustang. I attended Midway when I was in Elementary school. I graduated from Winthrop University with a degree in Elementary Education. I have had a life long passion for teaching and feel so fortunate to have the opportunity to teach in my hometown. My husband, Brad, and I are proud parents of our newborn son, Bryson. We love to take trips to the mountains, spend time with our family, and play with our cocker spaniel, Finley. I am looking forward to another great year in third grade!

Kandis Tucker

Hi Mustangs! I am Kandis Tucker, and I am very excited to join the Midway family this year. It will be my first year teaching at Midway but my 12th year teaching 3rd grade. I graduated from Coastal Carolina University where I went on to complete a Masters in Early Childhood Education and Administration. My husband Sam and I stay busy with our 4 year old daughter, Kalynn, who is also starting her first year at Midway this year. We love traveling, going to college games, and most of all Disney! I am looking forward to a great year with each of you this year.

Kim Whyde

Hello fellow Mustangs! I am so excited for another school year at Midway. My love for teaching began as I earned my bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Columbia College and began my teaching career in Lexington School District Five across the dam. I taught third grade and earned my Master’s in elementary education from the University of South Carolina. I also went on to earn my National Board Certification. This is my 23rd year of teaching third grade, and I still love every minute of it! I transferred to Midway Elementary when my husband Scott and I started a family. We have 2 girls, one who attends Lexington Middle and another attends River Bluff High. We also have a sweet rescue dog and cat we all adore. In my free time, I spend my time with my family on our wave runner at the lake and river or relaxing on the beach. I am looking forward to another great year! Go Mustangs!

This will be my 27th year teaching, and my 22nd year teaching at Midway. My Elementary Education Degree is from the University of Central Florida. I have taught 1st, 2nd, and 3rd grades throughout my career. I have a daughter who lives in Philadelphia and works for Special Olympics of Pennsylvania, and a son who is studying Mechanical Engineering at USC. My wonderful husband and I are empty nesters with a snuggly Beagle named Cody. I grew up outside of Chicago, but never want to move up north again! My favorite hobbies include spending time with family and friends, reading, exercising, and cooking. Midway is a very important part of my life, and is my home away from home.
